The Fountain of Youth

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

Shampoo, deodorants, and moisturizers fill the medicine cabinets in about every home in Ireland. You spend a decent percentage of your weekly budget on these and related items and do not think twice about it because they are a necessity. Let me ask you something: Would you eat these products? Of course not! They are full of chemicals, preservatives, and unsafe ingredients.

Did you know that by applying these products to your skin you are just “feeding” your skin with these toxic chemicals? Your body is consuming these products through your skin. All the chemicals in these products gain full access to your body when you apply them. They can penetrate your skin and are ingested by your body through the skin layer.

These products can wreak havoc on your overall health. Allergic reactions and skin irritation is just the first sign of the damage these artificial products cause to your body. Some of the chemicals used in the day-to-day beauty products are carcinogens and cause severe damage to your internal organs, especially to the liver and kidneys. Even your heart can be affected by these toxic substances put in your body care products.

Some of the more common chemicals found in bath and body products include several different forms of parabens. These chemicals are notorious for causing allergic skin reactions. They are highly toxic but favoured by big corporations in the industry due to their low price and ability to extend the shelf life of the products. Every product will have synthetic fragrances listed as an ingredient, which is a blanket term for hundreds of different combinations of artificial ingredients that are the main cause of headaches, dizziness, and rashes. Mineral oil is a common ingredient that sounds safe, but when applied causes a barrier over the skin that slows down the development of new and healthy cells. It can also cause acne because it traps any bacterial that was on your skin before you applied it. Propylene glycol, found in shampoo and bubble bath, has been linked to kidney damage and liver abnormalities. Next time you pick up your conditioner or favourite body cream, please take a moment to read the ingredients. Chances are, you will find one of the dangerous artificial ingredients just mentioned here.

So, what can you do to avoid the negative side effects of these chemicals? I am not suggesting that you stop bathing or give up your favourite beauty routines. What I am suggesting is to replace the cheap artificial beauty products with healthier natural products. In the long run the switch will preserve the beauty and wellbeing of your body.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body, but often does not get the attention it deserves. It is time to change that! What is the first thing people see when they look at you? Your skin. Sure, other things like your beautiful eyes and pouty lips matter too, but not so much if they are surrounded by dry, crackly skin. No one wants to be that person, who people avoid getting to close to for fear of accidentally touching sandpaper skin. It feels good to have soft and luscious skin. And as we age, our investment pays off, as skin that has been properly cared for will look younger and healthier for longer.

This is where a good skincare regimen is necessary. You need to nourish your body not only from within, but also from the outside. A good skincare plan requires a variety of things, including ways to cleanse the skin to get rid of dead skin cells, and hydrate the skin so it remains supple and soft.

There are thousands of skincare products on the market. However, many of them contain harmful chemicals that might not be doing what you expect them to do, and they might be damaging your skin.

Remember that whatever you place on your skin seeps quickly into your body, so when you slather on a bathtub of something containing ingredients with long names you cannot pronounce, you are absorbing these chemicals into you body. The absolute best way to ensure that you are getting clean, natural wholesome ingredients in your skincare products is to switch to natural, organic products. If you value your natural beauty you need to treat it as such and avoid anything harmful.

The fact of the matter is that the better-quality ingredients you put on your skin, the better job your skin can do to protect you against premature aging. This will be reflected in the way it glows, in its plumpness, and how soft it feels to the touch. This is the one thing you can easily do right away to help you look better, feel better and walk taller with the confidence of a beautiful person on the inside and out.

Stay beautiful, stay safe.
